In March 2024, the State Council issued the "Action Plan for Promoting Large scale Equipment Renewal and Consumer Goods Trade in", encouraging the upgrading and transformation of equipment such as motors, proposing new quality requirements for electrical steel raw material products, and promoting the research and application of ultra-thin strips of electrical steel to meet the demand for high-performance and high-strength materials such as high-power density motors.

The National Metallurgical Planning Institute plans to carry out a series of standard development work around "low-noise and high magnetic induction oriented electrical steel strip" and "oriented electrical steel strip for ultra-high voltage transformers in hydropower engineering", including the standard development of ultra-thin oriented electrical steel strip. This will standardize and guide the production and application of this material, improve product quality and consistency.

Relevant departments support enterprises and research institutions to carry out key technological breakthroughs in ultra-thin electrical steel through national key research and development programs and other projects. For example, breakthroughs in ultra-thin oriented electrical steel manufacturing technology by companies such as Huayu Intelligent Manufacturing have promoted the industrialization process of ultra-thin electrical steel.

The Ministry of Commerce has imposed anti-dumping duties on imported electrical steel products originating from Japan, South Korea, and the European Union, protecting the domestic electrical steel industry and creating a more favorable market environment for the development of domestic enterprises in the field of ultra-thin strips, which helps to enhance the market share and competitiveness of domestic enterprises.
